“Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus” (Heb. 3:1). As the Apostle of our confession, the Lord Jesus has come forth from the presence of God to represent Him before man; as High Priest He has gone into God’s presence to represent us, and to pray, in virtue of His sacrifice, for us in our weaknesses. There is another function which on our behalf He performs in this office; He offers our praise and worship before the Father. These facts have been set forth doctrinally in previous issues for the encouragement of the people of God, but it gives special pleasure to call attention to the emphasis upon the High Priestly ministry of Christ in the present number. Thomas Wilkie reminds us in the Devotional section that Christ ever liveth to make intercession for us, and David B. Long, Angola, Africa, pictures for us the High Priestly means by which Christ sanctifies and cleanses His Church. It should be explained, that the article by brother Long, with his permission, was reduced from a tape recording. Members of this Committee consider the message both searching and edifying, and hope that more than the original audience will profit by reading it.

John Martin’s article on Sin and its Pardon in the Doctrinal section proves that man needs a Saviour, and that the Christian needs an Advocate and a Great High Priest.

The biography of Tychicus in Lambs of the Flock presents a New Testament personality worthy of emulation.

Not only do we have sin before us in the Doctrinal Section, but also in the Bible Study. It would be well for all to acquaint themselves with these details for they indicate how extensive is the havoc caused by the Fall of man.
