“He is alive!” The shout re-echoed through the deep valley, and eventually reached the anxious group awaiting high up on the road. A few minutes before they had seen the truck, rumbling out of control down the steep serpentine road, plunge over its precipitous side and crash, rolling and tumbling down the mountain. It was a wonder to them that the driver had been found alive by two of their party who had ventured down the steep slope to where the broken truck now lay. The excited shout, “He is alive,” produced hope in their hearts for the injured man.
Down into the Valley of the Shadow of death, a mightier and more triumphant voice is heard, “I am the First and the Last, and the Living One: and I became dead, and behold, I am living to the ages of the ages, and have the keys of death and of hades” (Rev. 1:17 - 18. J. N. D.). This voice and message raises hope for fallen humanity in millions of hearts. Yes, Jesus lives, lives in the power of an endless life! He died by an act of His own will, no one could take His life from Him; He laid it down, “That through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil” (Heb. 2:14). “But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept” (1 Cor. 15:20). Such is the important message of this issue of Food for the Flock.
E. M. G. in another poem has expressed significantly the joyous results of the resurrection of Christ for all who believe. Wylam Price has given us one of the best apologetic articles we have reproduced. It is worthy of close perusal. In these days of apostacy when every fundamental of sound doctrine is questioned by a skeptical generation, it is refreshing to read a message of such clarity and force.
Many ex-service men will recall help received from former Naval Officer William MacDonald, and many younger ones will recollect words of caution, advice, and encouragement from this friend. We are delighted that our brother has given us a practical application of the doctrine of the resurrection of the saints, of which, of course, the resurrection of Christ is the pattern and proof. Oh, for a more separate walk with Christ; a more intimate walk with Him Whom soon we shall see face to face!
Thomas Wilkie assures our troubled hearts of the deep perpetual sympathy of the Risen Lord. Praise God for the intercession of our Advocate when we fail, and for the succour, strength, and sympathy of our High Priest when we fall.
The helpful exposition of Isaiah 50 by our brother T. E. Wilson, Angola, has a definite message for every one. Let us learn from it to follow the example of God’s Christ.
