v. 24—God is a Spirit. No human could ever be this. This fact gives each believer, irrespective of geographical location, access and audience at any time.
The believer must worship “in Spirit and in Truth.”
Our worship is to train the heart, our worship is spiritual.
These who really do this are called “true worshippers.”
There is no value in Mt. Gerizim or Jerusalem. Spirit and truth is everything. Worship is not a product of intellect. We must get down to the deepest sphere of our personality before we can attain the heights of true worship.
The contrast: In the old dispensation God was worshipped in altars, sacrifices, offerings, priests. Christianity has reintroduced these types to the plain teaching of scripture. True worship is a deep spiritual thing, it is according to truth, from the heart (emotions, intellect, and will).
v. 28—The woman left her waterpot = salvation. Peter and Andrew left their nets = surrender. Romans 12:1—consecration.
v. 29—The perfect friend.
