The United Nations! What a misnomer! What a display of disunity the fifteenth General Assembly has been!

Within this world organization there are nations whose leaders apparently would so annul its powers as to render it ineffective, if not destroy it altogether. There are other world leaders who support it thoroughly, and within its chambers strive diligently to ease international tension while bewildered humanity fixes its hopes for survival upon these efforts.

Man possesses such destructive weapons that he could destroy himself; consequently, he attempts to impose controls upon the use of his own inventions. Man’s hopes for peace do not generally rise beyond these self-imposed restrictions, sanctions, and talks of disarmament.

The philosophy behind all this is not very inspiring. The human heart being what it is, imposition of limitations and penalties only results in resentment by the smaller nations and disagreement among the more powerful.

While the United Nations hopes and works for peace, within it are the very elements of war: hatred, jealousy, malice, with all their threats and counter-threats. They cry, “Peace, peace, when there is no peace.”

There is no human deterrent for war; nevertheless, the Christian is enjoined to pray for kings and all who are in authority in order that we may live in quietness and peace, with godliness and honesty (1 Tim. 2:1-2).

Infidel man denies God and deifies himself arrogating the powers of survival or destruction. The Lord who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will, still rules among the kingdoms of men. God will accomplish His own purpose through the United Nations before removing it.

The Armageddon will result from three of the major political blocs among the nations converging upon Palestine. Two with the possible intent of destroying the Jewish people, another, maybe, ostensibly to aid the Jews, but with an anti-semitic hatred selfishly seeking its own. When the armies representing these forces meet for battle on the fields of Armageddon, Heaven shall open, “And behold a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns; and He had a name written, that no man knew, but He Himself. And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in Heaven followed Him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of His mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations: and He shall rule them with a rod of iron: and He treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God” (Rev. 19:11-15).

Not until the Prince of Peace whom the world rejected thus returns, will there in reality be united nations.
