“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, Who loved me, and gave Himself for me,” wrote the Apostle Paul to the Galatians (2:20). Furthermore, in making reference to the experiences during his life and ministry as a servant of the Lord, he said, “Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body” (2 Cor. 4:10).

It is from the incision in the tree that the sweet aromatic gum exudes, and it is through the crushing of the rose that its exquisite perfume is released. In like manner, it was when Gideon’s men broke their pitchers that the light shone forth. Through dying the Christian lives. We, therefore, must reckon ourselves as dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

When the child of God accepts these judicial facts, what a struggle ensues, “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh” (Gal. 5:17)! He must, consequently, learn that since we live in the Spirit, we must walk in the Spirit.

Much of the ministry in this issue of Food for the Flock emphasizes this experiential side of the Christian life.

In the devotional article, “Life that is Life Indeed,” by Robert McClurkin, there is revealed the secret to the development of a well-controlled spiritual life.

Brother Samuel Jardine, Ireland, commences this month in the “Doctrinal” section a series of articles on “The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit.” This series has been prepared with much exercise and care and should be read prayerfully. Through these papers, more will be learned of the secret power of Christian living.

Arnold McIntee, in “Beside the Shepherds’ Tents,” give us the second part of his helpful article relative to the attendance in the Sunday School. In this issue there are some excellent suggestions.

Our “Expository” section this month does not contain an exposition of some passage of Scripture or of some Biblical subject, but a startling exposure of the occult working of evil spirits in Africa. Through a more or less intensive perusal of this treatise from Donald Cole, we may learn the power of the archenemy of God and man, Satan. Surely such knowledge will result in the casting of ourselves upon the Holy Spirit’s power for protection and deliverance.

We were so happy to receive, just in time for publication, a response to our request from brother F. W. Schwartz, Detroit. He has thought very sanely upon the subject, “The Salvation of Infants,” and his sound reasonings and his logical deductions appear in “The Forum.” Some may be disappointed in not finding the answer to their own problems this month. We hope they will not be too disappointed. The article from our brother seemed so important that it has been given a priority over some other matters that will appear later.
