Preface

For many years Daniel Smith has faithfully exercised his exceptional gift of writing, producing a dozen or so books which have blessed the hearts of many Christians. Perhaps the best known of all his writings is the series (three volumes) on Worship and Remembrance, meditations on the Lord’s Supper. This Christ-centered, Christ-exalting ministry has brought saints to a fresh and deeper appreciation of our blessed Lord and Saviour and of His atoning work at Calvary’s cross. His insights into the excellencies, the glories, the perfections of our Lord have brought many into the true exercise of worship, both in private and in the assembly. He says that this exercise of worship “is of utmost importance, and it should be the daily duty of all believers to offer their adoring worship and praise to God, our Father, through the atoning merits of His beloved Son, and the energies of the Holy Spirit.”

The burden from the Lord and the need of the Lord’s people led Dan to write Volume IV in this series on Worship and Remembrance. The supply of the first three volumes was exhausted long ago and people were still requesting them. It was obvious that these books were much in demand and were meeting a real need.

For years I had been concerned about the fact that Dan’s books were never printed in sufficient quantities to meet the demand. No doubt others shared this concern and not a few made it a matter of prayer. In August 1984, while Dan was in Lexington for some meetings, I approached him with what I believed would be the solution to this problem, the formation of a non-profit corporation, made up of godly men who would serve as faithful overseers in publishing his books. After much prayer and deliberation we felt that this was the Lord’s leading and Dan agreed for us to proceed in this direction.

A special word of appreciation goes to Lee Scroggins, a professional management consultant, and member of the Northern Hills Assembly in Cincinnati, Ohio who opened his office for our first meeting, and for giving his professional advice in forming the non-profit corporation. This book is the first undertaking of Royal Life Publications. We feel that this book will be greatly used of God for the blessing of the saints and will result in much honor and glory given to our dear Lord as the exercise of worship ascends into heaven, bearing the sweet fragrance of our Saviour’s worth.

Royal Life Publications will print other works, old and new, by Daniel Smith, as the Lord provides. We are grateful to God for those faithful brethren who have given so liberally to make this first printing possible. These books will be sold at a reasonable price and all proceeds will go back into the printing fund. All receipts from sales and gifts, one hundred per cent of the income, will go into the publishing expenses. None of the board members will receive a salary. Those who wish to have fellowship with this work should send their gifts to: Royal Life Publications, Inc., P.O. Box 23227, Lexington, KY 40523. You will receive a tax deductible receipt.

May this first book be a foretaste of publications to follow. Our desire is: “That in all things He might have the preminence” (Colossians 1:18).
