Light
“For at one time you were darkness itself, but now in union with the Lord you are light itself. You must live like children of light, for the product of light consists in practicing everything that is good and right and true” (Ephesians 5:8, 9, Williams Translation).
Light in the Scriptures is symbolic of many things that are precious to the Christian. It represents first of all the outshining of God’s glory, the spiritually visible element of the divine nature. The light that we have as children of God is that which we need to guide us on our earthly journey. It is ours through the indwelling Holy Spirit.
Let us walk in the light of truth, reading and meditating on God’s Word so that we can discern good from evil, right from wrong, truth from falsehood.
Let us walk in the light of holiness, pursuing it in order that we might be living testimonies of God’s saving grace and grow as mature Christians.
Let us walk in the light of wisdom, looking to God Who is Light and Who gives wisdom liberally to all who will ask of Him.
“Let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light” (Romans 13:12), guarding against the attack of the powers of darkness, and preparing for whatever task our Lord assigns to us. Let us walk in the light of faith, looking off and away unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of faith, until the day when we are finally delivered from the presence of sin and rest in the light of His presence. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
