Current Events

Events in Europe are moving quickly! Changes are speedily happening all over the world! The hero of one day is the defeated foe of the next! Any quietness is merely the preparation for another storm. The crisis of Berlin, even if a solution is found, will be followed by still a greater crisis.

The turmoil reminds one of the words, “I will overturn, overturn, overturn it: and it shall be no more, until He comes Whose right it is; and I will give it Him.” Surely, uneasy lies the head that wears the crown.

Great parliaments are divided within themselves, as was the British House over the inflammatory visit of a Labour M.P. to Southern Rhodesia.

Men say, peace and safety, but then sudden destruction falls upon them. Carnal resistance to the advance of the forces of evil appears futile as in Tibet.

In spite of world wide ideologies and philosophies, the spirit of nationalism severs their supposed cohesive front with the result that empires dissolve, as did the British; and nations are divided, as in France.

There is a great need for prayer during these days of crises. Supplication should be made for all men, for kings, and for all who are in authority; that we may lead quiet and peaceable lives in all godliness and honesty.

There is also ample room for the exercise of hope, for while we see not all things put under Christ, we see Jesus, Who was made a little lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honour. The Father already has placed Him in supreme authority from which position eventually He will rule.

There is also the need of aggressive evangelism so that in spite of the confusion, we might by all means save some.

ISRAEL, hard pressed, and still paying heavy assessments for her militarily brilliant Sinai invasion of Egypt is faced with the problem of absorbing 100,000 new immigrants (mostly from Communist Rumania). This will mean greatly increased taxes for her citizens who already have sacrificed much for the benefits of new settlers.

What an illustration of that work God long ago prophesied! “I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west; I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring My sons from far and My daughters from the ends of the earth” (Isa. 43:5-6). The fig tree putteth forth her green figs. These movements in Israel are further evidences of the end of the age.
