The Apostolic Preaching Of The Cross — Dr. Leon Morris, Wm. B. Erdmans Publishing Company, Grand Rapids, Mich.

There is no subject of greater importance than that of the atonement of Christ, and there is no message for the world of greater importance than that of the gospel of Christ. Any work that will deepen our appreciation of the former and broaden our understanding of the latter is worthy of our attention. Dr. Morris, in this book, has accomplished these. His book is especially for the Bible student, but may be read by all who are willing to engage in an intensive examination of the cardinal truths of the gospel.

The contents of this volume remind one of the statement of the Apostle Paul, “For the preaching (word) of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” (1 Cor. 1:18)

The method by which the matter is treated inspires confidence. Such subjects as Redemption, Covenant, The Blood, Propitiation, Reconciliation, and Justification are approached in the manner of a word study. The different words which the Holy Spirit used to convey these spiritual ideas to us are carefully examined both in their derivation and in their usage.

This is not a book to be read hurriedly, but carefully and attentively. It is a work that should be read repeatedly and consulted frequently until its doctrinal material is absorbed by the spiritual man.
