Foreword

Bonar once said that Samuel Rutherford had,

“a thirst no earthly stream could satisfy;
a hunger that must feed on Christ or die.”

To all who share this thirst and hunger, the following pages will prove a feast of good things. The book will endear itself to those who love our Lord Jesus Christ because it is all about Him. It is filled with great thoughts about the Savior. It is filled with exalted expressions of worship and appreciation of the One who is supremely worthy.

Many will recognize portions of the book as messages delivered by the author at various times throughout his ministry. All such will welcome the preservation of these addresses in more permanent form. It is hoped that as they read these pages, they will once again recapture the sound of a voice that throbbed with emotion for God—a voice that had tears in it.

No one ever reads a book without being affected in some way by it. As the reader beholds the glory of the Lord in this volume, may he be changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
