(1) ‘Tis Grace alone, which lefts the mind,
From meaner views, the Lord to please;
And prompts the soul in Him to find
All that the soul can taste of ease.
(2) How blest such hours serenely glide,
‘Midst wrecks and horror all around!
Nor shall death’s rough and rushing tide
That placid sense of life confound.
(3) Pleas’d with His Father’s sovereign will,
Who best can choose, and best Decree;
His word he trusts Him to fulfill,
With patient eye and waiting knee.
He sails o’er time’s tumultuous man,
Dependent on Eternal (Grace) care;
And cannot doubt the part to gain
For God hath sworn to bring him there
