Shadows
Our lives are lived in the depths of shadows until the radiance of the face of Jesus Christ brings the fullness of Divine Light into our hearts and lives (John 8:12; 2 Corinthians 4:6). There are shadows that leave us, as Christians, depressed and sorrowful, yet there are the blessed realities of Divine Shadows that touch the soul and lift us beyond the range of human needs into the refreshing strength of the face of Christ to fit us for the continued conflict of these last dark days prior to His return.
1. The Shadow of a Great Rock (Isaiah 32:2). Truly, here is a place of wondrous shelter from the burning heat of circumstances and difficulty. A place where the Saviour takes the burden of both the heat and distress of our times to prevent our souls from being burned out and barren of the joys of Christian experience.
2. The Shadow of His Wings (Psalm 63:7). Have you ever noticed that the wing feathers of birds are soft underneath and yet hard enough on top to withstand the harshness of the elements? This same blessed protection is ours as we rest in the trust that the Holy Spirit gives in the shadow of the continuing grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
3. The Shadow of His Presence (Song of Solomon 2:3). Here is the most treasured place of all! Fellowship with our risen Lord which truly refreshes and strengthens the soul in the knowledge of His continued love and care in the unsearchable riches of His grace.
