Some Eternal Truths

Arthur F. Wilder

“For ever, O Lord, Thy Word is settled in heaven” (Psalm 119:89).

Our lives are regulated in finite time periods of minutes, hours, weeks, months and years, but in spiritual matters we have the eternal Word of God to guide and enlighten us. God Himself has no beginning and no ending and is eternal in His knowledge, power, and truth. There are over 150 references in the Bible to eternal and everlasting realities.

We have the words of our Lord that all who believe in Him as Saviour and Lord have eternal life. In Hebrews 5:9 we read that He is the immediate source of our eternal salvation. By the shedding of His own blood on Calvary’s cross, He obtained our eternal redemption. We have the promise of an eternal inheritance in the new order of things when Christ returns, for He is the Heir of all things and we are joint-heirs with Him (Romans 8:17).

The afflictions of this life are nothing compared to the eternal weight of glory which awaits God’s redeemed people (2 Corinthians 4:17). The eternal security of the believer is assured by our Lord in John 10:28 and elsewhere in Scripture. We can look forward to an eternal home in heaven, “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens” (2 Corinthians 5:1) .

Let us enjoy eternal comfort in the knowledge that “the eternal God is our refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms” (Deuteronomy 33:27).
